Whodunnit? at Meet China

Dr. Henry Lee is one of the most famous detectives in the world for his outstanding work on many legendary investigations. On 26th June 2005, he came to the studio of Meet China and met with his old friend professor Wu Guoqing, who is also a famous investigator as well as the crew of a TV series about a famous Chinese investigator-Song ci from the Song dynasty, which is being broadcast on CCTV-1. Although it is the second time that Dr. Lee appears on Meet China, his appearance was still good reason for applause among the audience.

Is O.J. Simpson guilty?

Over the past 40 years, Dr. Lee assisted in the investigations of more than 8,000 cases, including war crimes in Bosnia and Croatia, the suicide of President Clinton's former White House attorney, Vince Foster, a review of the JFK assassination, the death of John Kennedy and many other notable cases. Among all the cases, “O.J. Simpson” is one of the best known.

At the beginning of the show, when asked, “Is there any stable push with the famous cases that you are dealing with?” Dr. Lee told the audience there have been some new discoveries in the “O.J. Simpson case”. Some new evidence has shown that another man has become the prime suspect rather than Simpson.

On June 12, 1994, Simpson's former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, 35, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, 25, were savagely killed in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. Most evidence showed Simpson was a suspect. There was even a car chase with Simpson in a white Ford Bronco, led police cars and a fleet of TV news helicopters on the southern California 405 freeway.

At that time, both the police and the public thought Simpson was surely the guilty party. But Dr. Lee questioned the validity of the evidence and it was his influence that changed the judgment. Some people thought he exculpated for the murderer, but now, as more and more new evidence is found, it makes the people re-understand it.

Introducing an old Chinese investigator to the world

Maybe because of his occupational instinct, Dr. Henry Lee even knows about the TV series broadcasted on CCTV-1 although he has only been in Beijing for a couple days. Song Ci, the investigator on the show is a very prominent detective and legal medical expert in ancient China. He is well known in his field, but most people have never heard of the man. Dr. Henry Lee, of course, knows Song Ci very well. Actually he has always introduced Song Ci putting emphasis on Song’s books, in the field of medical jurisprudence, in his articles.

“Nobody dare to lie to me”

On his official website, Dr. Lee is described as “known for finding the tiniest clues”. Yes, he has a pair of very sharp eyes and it is his strong suit to discover the truth beneath the surface. He keeps on observing and meditating everyday.
“It even makes me suffer an occupational disease. When I go back home, I even check the cash can to try to find something strange.” Dr. Lee said. “So nobody dare to lie to me.”
