| Known
as the “Paradise on earth”, Suzhou is
a very attractive city today, and was too
a thousand years ago. Its classical gardens,
which were recognized by UNESCO under the
World Heritage banner last year, are especially
well known around the world.
Now
the second thing that shoots Suzhou into
the international eye is its fast growing
economy. Over the past several years, the
economy of Suzhou has improved by leaps
and bounds. Even surprising to the Chinese
nation itself, Suzhou’s GDP was ranked
number four among all Chinese cities last
year.
In
this episode, seven mayors and councilors
from different European cities get together
with Suzhou’s leaders. How does one keep
on developing a strong economy while protecting
the cultural heritage of the area at the
same time? This is the big challenge for
everyone in this show.
